At some point, it hits. You've been alone for hours, your legs are heavy, your head is empty, and it's still a long way to the next checkpoint, the next gas station, or the finish. But when someone keeps you company in your ears, it gets a lot easier.
Podcasts help on an ultra. Not because they bring the legs back, but because they take your head somewhere else and help the time pass. Here are four we like to put on when we ride (two in english, two in german).
The Rest Is History
Two historians tell each other a story from history, every week. From reckless expeditions to the origins of the Tour de France. Endless episodes, told with humor and a light touch. Perfect for binge listening.
Lantern Rouge
If you follow WorldTour racing or like peeking behind the scenes, there's plenty here. Benji and Patrick are full-on cycling nerds — deep analysis, dry humor, a lot of love for the details.

Alles gesagt (Die Zeit)
Two hosts talk with a guest until the guest themselves says: everything's been said. Episodes sometimes run seven, eight, ten hours. An ultra might be the only situation in life where you can actually get through a full episode in one go.
Teenager mit deutschem Akzent (TMDA)
Filed under: rambling. But the entertaining kind, easy to let wash over you. Fynn Kliemann and Nisse talk startup ideas, rumors of the week, inventions nobody asked for. You kind of end up at the table with them, which is pretty welcome after four hours alone in the saddle.
Until next time.
